COMICS WEEKEND 2025 #1
A new creative experiment, this digital zine was created in just two days, bringing together three artists. Each one tasked with interpreting the same character through a pair of 4-panel yonkoma comics. Guided by mentors Sasha Pokhvalin and Alissa Sallah, the creators explore the quirky and relatable world of a Pillowdy character created just for the event by Sasha.
Pillowdy might be a bit of a slacker, always chasing naps instead of greatness, but there’s something endearing about his dreamy and escapist nature. He’s always finding a way to make something out of nothing, even if it’s just a nap.
The zine you’re about to read reflects our experiment with the kishotenketsu narrative structure, where we play with the flow of storytelling, creating space for the unexpected and the open-ended.
By embracing this four-part format, we allow the narrative to unfold without the traditional conflict-resolution model, opening up new possibilities for creative exploration and expression. Through this experiment, we’ve collaborated with the intention of allowing each artist to contribute their unique perspective, while still working within the same framework.
In the end, it’s about embracing the unpredictability of creative collaboration and allowing space for the stories to evolve organically.
